Frequently asked questions

Do I need to login to search the Library Catalogue?

No, you don't need to login to search the Library Catalogue. You will, however, need to identify yourself if you want to place a reservation or request for items as you browse through your search results. If you log in before searching the Library Catalogue, the system will remember your details for the duration of your login session and you will not need to enter your details again to use these services. If you are not logged in, you will need to identify yourself for each transaction.

What resources can I find in the Library Catalogue?

The online catalogue searches for all items located at any of our branches, as well as our eLibrary. This service can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

4. Select the library location from which you would like to collect the item from.

5. Select the continue button.

What is an alert profile and how do I set one up?

An alert profile allows you to create a profile that matches your personal preferences for materials you would like to borrow. When any new items have been added to the collection that meet your profile's criteria, you will be sent an email containing details for each item. When you receive this email, you can click on the hyperlink to go directly to the item and place a reservation if you wish.

In order to use this email alert functionality, you must have an email address included in your registration details.

To add a new alert profile:

1. Enter your barcode number and PIN (day/month of birth) if you are not already logged in.

2. Select 'Alert profiles' from the drop down menu on the top right-hand side of the page.

3. Create a new alert profile - enter your preferences in the search profile fields. You can select several options from the multi-choice lists.

4. Click the 'Search' button (or press the enter key) to test your search to see if it retrieves the number and type of records you are expecting. This will apply your search preferences to the online catalogue and will display the records retrieved. Return to your profile using the navigation breadcrumb displayed at the top of the result set.

5. Make any necessary adjustments to your search profile and retest the search.

6. Select an alert frequency to indicate how often you would like the Library to email you any new works matching your profile.

7. Optionally enter an expiry date if you do not want alerts to be sent after a specific date.

8. Provide a short description of your profile so that you can recognise it in your profile list. This will also be included in the email that is sent to you.

9. Click the 'Save' button to create your new profile. A message will be displayed to let you know your profile has been created and the form will be cleared to enable you to enter another profile if you wish to.

10. Alert profiles can also be deleted when they are no longer required.
